Obituary of Alexander Ahmed
Alexander Emanuel Ahmed, age 89, of Powell, OH, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at home. Alexander was born January 4, 1926 in Newark, NJ. He is the son of the late Michael and the late Dora (Mirenghi) Ahmed. He married Aleda Deemer on July 14, 1951 in Yonkers, NY, she predeceased him on November 2, 2014.
Alexander enlisted on February 19, 1944 and received an Honorable Discharge from the US Army. Served in WWII as Staff Sergeant assigned to a Medic Unit in England. He was employed by VIZ Industry Philadelphia as the VP of Human Resources.
Alexander was a resident of Ohio for the last Nine years previously of Poughkeepsie, New York.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc in Powell, Ohio. Alexander was a talented painter of American pop art and super heroes. He had an exhibition at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus Ohio and his home was a virtual gallery of art ranging from topics of Batman to gnomes and birds, and his own created characters, Whisp O'Dare and Stuffy. As a young art student, he worked with the author Ellery Queen before he was a celebrated writer. The two worked together to create a comic book series based on the U.S. Postal Crimes Division. Mr. Ahmed was a devoted husband and father, much loved by his family. His children often said they received their MBAs around the nightly dinner table as he offered advice for life and business.
Alexander is survived by his Daughter Candace Roberts, son-in-law Mark Roberts, granddaughter Rhian Jeong and husband Dong Hyeon Jeong, granddaughter Chelsea Roberts, granddaughter Kendall Roberts (Philadelphia, PA)
Daughter Alana Haberman, son-in-law Mark Haberman, granddaughter Whitney Ames and husband Joe Ames, great granddaughters Katherine Aleda and Mary Margaret, granddaughter Abby Haberman, granddaughter Bayley Haberman (Columbus, Ohio)
Son Alexander Ahmed, daughter-in-law Wendy Ahmed, grandson Christopher Ahmed and grandson Thomas Ahmed (Poughkeepsie, NY)
Daughter Aleda Schaffner and son-in-law William Schaffner (Alexandria, VA) and his sister Molly DiCola (Poughkeepsie, NY)
Calling hours will be Monday, October 26, 2015 from 10am to 11am at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
The funeral will be held 11:00 am following the visitation. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
