Obituary of Steve Stamatakos

Steve T. Stamatakos, age 84, of Poughkeepsie, NY and Matthews, NC, died peacefully surrounded by his family on April 7, 2016. Born on January 6, 1932 in Skoura, Greece, he was the son of Theodoros and Stamata Stamatakos. Steve immigrated to the United States in 1951 to Saratoga Springs, NY and then relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY. He earned an associate degree from Hudson Valley Technical Institute in Troy, NY. He had a long and rewarding career, working for IBM for 35 years as a Lab Specialist. He was an active member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church of Poughkeepsie and a tireless volunteer who loved supporting his church, finding much enjoyment working at the Greek festivals. Steve was a very friendly, kind and generous man who also loved spending time with his large extended family. He always looked forward to hosting family gatherings where he could use his cameras to capture all the wonderful memories. He enjoyed spending the summers during retirement in his childhood town of Skoura where he took great pride in restoring the family home and gardens and spending time with his sisters and cousins. Steve is survived by his loving and devoted wife Demetra Stamatakos; son and daughter-in-law Theodore and Harriet Stamatakos; daughter and son-in-law Matina and Jim Bolger; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Juliet Stamatakos; sister Eleni Skoutakis; sister and brother-in-law Athina and Stylianos Prattas; and most cherished grandchildren Andrew Bolger, Steven Bolger, Demetra Stamatakos, Agatha Stamatakos and Demi Stamatakos; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and godchildren. He leaves a big void in all or our lives and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial services will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 10 am at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140. S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
