Obituary of Charles DeFraia
Charles S. DeFraia, age 89, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center Poughkeepsie, NY. Charlie was born March 26, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the late Louis and the late Angelina (Lanzarone) DeFraia. He married Joan Curran on April 16, 1950 at St. Peter's Church Poughkeepsie.
He was employed by Western Printing and IBM where he worked in the Accounting Department.
Charlie was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and he served his in the United States Army. Charlie Played High School Basketball, All Star Fast Pitch Baseball and played for De'S Jewelers and Western Publishing Basketball. Charlie was also involved in Coaching Minor League Baseball and was the manager for the Polish Club Little League.
Charlie was also a director for the Polish Club Drum Corp known as the Pacers Drum and Bugle. Over the years Charlie was one of the people who helped start BINGO at the Polish Club and at St Mary's. Charlie was a member of the Polish Club and the Italian. He served on the Board of Directors at the Italian Center, run successful Diner Dances for both organizations and for over 13 years at the Italian Center ran Charlie's Italian Night.
He is survived by his wife: Joan DeFraia of Poughkeepsie, son Charles S. DeFraia Jr. and his wife Claire Wasserman of Highfalls, NY, son Michael DeFraia and his wife Brenda of Pleasant Valley, daughter Cynthia Secor of Poughkeepsie and son Gregory DeFraia and his wife Lisa of Hyde Park. Charlie is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Parise of Poughkeepsie and Rosie Biscardi of North Carolina.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
