Obituary of Anita Falanga

Anita Grace (Urciuoli) Falanga, 95, of Wake Forest North Carolina and long time former resident of Poughkeepsie NY, passed away Saturday December 24. Anita was born in Brooklyn July 2, 1921 to Gaetano and Frances Urciuoli. When she was 7, the family moved from Brooklyn to Mansion street in Poughkeepsie and lived there most of her life. On August 2, 1943 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie, she married James (Jerry) Falanga. Anita and Jerry owned Falanga's Dairy and Italian Deli in Poughkeepsie. She retired in 1989. Anita loved to travel, being with family and friends, and dancing with her husband. She was a compassionate listener and family and friends sought her out with their problems and stories and received caring words in return. She was well loved by family and many friends who could frequently be found listening to Anita's storytelling of her full and blessed life. She was a member of St Rita Society of Mt Carmel. She moved with her son Jim and daughter-in-law Nancy to North Carolina in 2010 where she was a member of the Prayer Shawl ministry and Senior club of St Francis of Assisi. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony D. and Patricia Falanga of Virginia Beach, VA and James and Nancy Falanga of Wake Forest, NC; her grandchildren, Cathy Falanga, Glen Falanga, Christina Falanga, Christopher Falanga, Kate Falanga and Debbie Falanga. Nine great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, and a sister, Angie Gallo of Hyde Park, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Jerry after 65 years of marriage and her brothers, Tony and George Urciuoli. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Community of Saint Francis of Assisi, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613 (Prayer Shawl ministry).
