Obituary of Willetta E. Dickens

Willetta E. Dickens,79, died peacefully at home on Dec. 31, 2016. Ms. Dickens was born on Feb. 1, 1937 in Yonkers, New York to the late Lloyd and Evelyn Anderton. She retired from the City of Poughkeepsie School District after working 35 years as a teacher's assistant at Krieger Elementary School. Friends and family describe Willetta as a strong, patient, loyal, loving and selfless woman who cherished spending time with her family. Ms. Dickens is survived by brothers Ernest(Equilla), Hubert, and William(June) Anderton, sisters Doris Soloman and Cassaundra(Samuel) Garretson, son Dallas Dickens (Crissandra), daughter Leitha Dickens, grandchildren Lisa Tingling, Christle Medley, Erica Dickens, Justin Holliman, Joseph Gatewood, Adrieona Holliman, Laura Dickens, Nadia Richards, Jalae Gatewood, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers Lloyd Jr and Leon Anderton, and sister Bessie Greene. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday 1/7/17 at 11am at Beth-El church of God and Christ, 91 Hooker Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the: Anderton Reunion (Scholarship Fund) c/o 3005 Buckhorn Road Sanford, NC 27330 Attn: Dr. Lillie Anderton Robinson
