Obituary of Joseph G. Drop

Joseph G. Drop, 85, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A local resident since 1957, and previously of Green Point, Brooklyn, NY, he was born in Brooklyn on September 12, 1931 to the late Joseph G. and Blanche Olko Drop. Joseph graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and had served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 11, 1955 he married Joan A. Echelmeier in Philadelphia, PA, and she predeceased him on November 11, 2015. Joseph worked as an Engineer for IBM for over 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church and loved to golf, bowl and do Sudoku puzzles. He was an avid Giants and Mets fan. Joseph is survived by his children and their spouses; Joseph Drop of Poughkeepsie, Deborah Shaffer (Alan) of Rhinebeck, David J. Drop (Kimberly) of Poughkeepsie, Daniel Drop (Anne) of Durham, CT,Diane Cronin (James) of Marlborough, MA. and Jennifer Drop of Brooklyn, NY. Also surviving are his ten grandchildren, Kimberly, Susan and Stephanie Shaffer, Katlin and Cassidy Drop, Danielle, Jessica and Samantha Drop and Alex and Adam Cronin, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church and Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
