Obituary of Maria Martinez

Maria Martinez, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, has left this world to be with the Lord on April 10, 2017 at the age of 92. Maria was born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico on August 17, 1924. Maria is survived by her children Migdalia Sosa, Angel Santiago(Predeceased) Nora Vasquez and Jose Santiago; her grandchildren Juan Sosa Jr, Janaira Ostrander, Micaela Santiago, Xiamara Santiago, Joselynn Santiago; and numerous great grandchildren. Maria was born in small town, Naranjito, in Puerto Rico. She always had great love for the lord, and exemplified that love with everyone she encountered throughout her life. Maria was always service before self. She would always put aside any problems she may have in her life order to make time love, listen and comfort anyone in a time of their greatest despair. No obstacle was ever too big for Maria as she always put her entire faith in the Lord. Maria always loved her family, and in 1983 she came to United States with her children and Grandchildren seeking the American dream making it her primary home. She assimilated into United States with great dignity, grace, and humbleness. Values she was instilled with as a child. Looking back the assimilation process seemed daunting as she arrived not speaking the language and never attaining a motor vehicle license. However, she was a person that would never let anything get in the way of her children's wishes and always entrusted the Lord to show her the way. Her sacrifices have opened the door for future generations in her immediate family to enjoy the things we love of this country. Maria, however, always stayed true to her native Puerto Rico always keeping the religious, cultural, and foods prevalent on the island in her home. This blend of cultures in her home was magical. She never wanted any of her family members to forget their native roots, yet her love for her new home made her beam with great joy. Maria, may you rest in eternal peace with the Lord. Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we'll miss you until we meet again. Calling Hours will be held Thursday April 13, 2017 from 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. There will be a prayer service during the Calling Hours at 7:30pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
