Obituary of Louise R. Nash

Louise R. Nash, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, passed away early Sunday morning, April 23rd, in peace at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburg, New York. Louise regularly received communion at St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie, her parish for the last 37 years. She taught and counseled students at schools throughout the mid-Hudson Valley, from Pine Plaines to Marlboro and finally at Carmel, where she directed the guidance program for the district. She also nursed at Ferncliff Home, a continuing care community for the Archdiocese in Rhinecliff, NY. After retirement, she volunteered for Hospice. She turned her seamstress hobby into part-time work doing wedding dress alterations, and displayed her fine culinary skills by hosting a summertime Bed & Breakfast near Cooperstown, NY. She enjoyed the natural beauty of New York State and walks in the mild winters of Florida. Louise was born to Madeliene Marie (nee Kuntz) and William Frederick Reyers in Philadelphia and grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. She graduated Christ the King Grammar School and St Mary of the Angels Academy nearby before attending St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. Louise received graduate degrees from SUNY Albany and Fordham University. She took summer courses at Siena College where she met her husband, Deacon David J. Nash. They married in 1973 at St. Peter’s Church in Merchantville, NJ. Louise encouraged and supported her husband’s Deaconate ministry at St. Martin’s and Chaplin service at Vassar Brothers Hospital. Louise was devoted to her children, Dave and Deirdre Joy Nash. She was a loving sister to William Reyers, Judith Spires, Mary Brusoe and Robert Reyers. She was much loved by her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
