Obituary of Catherine P. Arena

Catherine P. Arena, age 85, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie of Poughkeepsie, NY.  Catherine was born December 1, 1931 in Bronx, NY. She is the daughter of the late Wilbert and the late Edna (Furst) Derrick.  She married Charles A. Arena on December 28, 1957 at Christ Church Riverdale Section of The Bronx.  She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A.  Arena on  February 6, 2005. 

She retired from Wappinger's Central School District in 1991 where she worked as a teacher. 

Catherine was a member of American Association of the University Women's Poughkeepsie Branch, member of the Eastern Star Orange County Chapter and a active member of the faculty wives club.

Catherine was a local resident since 1968 previously from the Bronx and Cornwall, New York. She was a graduate with a Masters Degree from Hunter College in 1953. Catherine was a retired English teacher, working in Schools in NYC and Wappingers Central Schools,  New York. Catherine also worked for the Bell Telephone Company Laboratories in NYC doing Technical Editing. Catherine was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church Poughkeepsie, New York. Catherine was also active as a facilitator with the marriage encounter program at the church.

Catherine loved to tell Jokes, she had a joke for everyone. She was a great seamstress and embroider and she loved to go ball room dancing with her husband Charles and loved to play bridge. 

She is survived by one daughter Nancy Lutz and her husband Fred " Fritz " of Poughkeepsie, New York.

Calling Hours will be held Sunday April 30, 2017 from 2pm to 6pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.

The funeral will be held 11am on May 1, 2017  at Christ Church Episcopal, Poughkeepsie, NY   Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, New York.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines in Poughkeepsie for the great care that was given to Catherine.
