Obituary of Ann G. Lyons
Ann went to the Lord on May 3, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.
She was born on January 20, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, to James and Elizabeth Cowan, immigrants from Ireland.
She graduated from St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School in Brooklyn. She attended high school in Ireland. She later graduated from St. John's University in Brooklyn.
Early in her life, Ann worked at AT&T, St. John's University and taught school at St. Saviour's School in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Later, Ann was a teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Poughkeepsie, NY, for 25 years. She was an excellent teacher who loved her students, and in return, was loved by them.
She was also a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie for a number of years, and was a Third Order Franciscan.
She was a very active member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie, which she loved, where she served as both a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector. She was also a long-time member of the Holy Trinity Women's Society.
Ann is survived by her loving husband, John P. Lyons of Poughkeepsie, NY, whom she married in 1959 at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Brooklyn. She is also survived by: her son John F. Lyons and his wife, Joanne M. Gray, of Rhinebeck, NY; by her daughter Kathleen A. Lyons, and her son & Ann's grandson, Connor, of Poughkeepsie, NY; and her son Fr. Michael P. Lyons, of Easton, CT. Ann was predeceased by her parents, and by her beloved brother James P. Cowan, of Delmar, NY, and by her sister, Eilis O'Hara, of Albany, NY.
Ann was dearly loved by her husband and children, and all who loved her, and she will be greatly missed.
Friends may call at the Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY, on Thursday, May 11, 2017, between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and later between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY, on Friday, May 12, 2017, at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow Mass at the Cemetery of St. Denis Catholic Church, 604 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann's name may be made to Holy Trinity School, 20 Springside Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
