Obituary of Katherine Smith

Katherine Smith, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Masonic Care Facility in Utica, NY. Born on August 28, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Ferris and Viola Oepen Janson. Katherine was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. On September 21, 1946 she married William H. Smith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie and he predeceased her on September 19, 2010. Katherine had worked as the Deputy Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1994. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Red Oaks Mill Fire Department #3, of which she was a charter member, as well as serving many positions within the department. Katherine is survived by her children; Elizabeth Partridge of Poughkeepsie, Robin M. Smith and Michael Winkler of North Salem, Tracy A. and John Jacobs of Poughkeepsie and Caroline L. and Edward Sullivan of Pleasant Valley. Also surviving are her granddaughters Kimberly Ann Partridge, Amy Partridge and Grace K. Jacobs, her grandsons Zachary Sullivan and Matthew John Jacobs. In addition to her husband, Katherine was predeceased by her brother William Janson. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5:00 - 8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the Family.
