Obituary of James C. Laffin
James C. Laffin Jr., 71, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Hospital after courageously battling a long illness.
James was born on April 6, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late James C. Laffin Sr. and Louise Foresta Laffin. He was a graduate of Arlington High School, the class of 1964. He worked as an electrician for over 40 years and retired from Spoor & Haines in 2008. Along with being an electrician, he was a life member of Arlington Engine Company Number One. James enjoyed spending his retirement working in his tomato garden,worked at the Arlington Fire House helping with the restoration project for the “Oren”, and most of all spending his time with his beloved granddaughter, Emily Gibbons. Emily and her “Papa” would spend a lot of their time gardening, doing science experiments, playing with his train set, and of course shopping.
On September 24, 1972 James married Gail Williams Laffin in Poughkeepsie, NY at Holy Trinity Church. Gail survives at home along with children, James Laffin III and Juliane Gibbons and her husband Jesse Gibbons. James was predeceased by his brother Morten Laffin in 2010. In addition to his wife he is survived by his brothers, Joseph, Kevin and Anthony Laffin, sisters Maureen Sweeney, Mariam Soyka, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will take place Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4pm-7pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Avenue Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will take place Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10am at St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
