Obituary of Thomas P. Halley Jr.

Thomas P. Halley Jr, a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10th, 2017.

He was born in Beacon, NY on May 22, 1952, the only child of Thomas P. and Betty Halley. A product of Saint John’s parochial school, he was a proud member of the final graduating class of Saint Patrick’s High School in Newburgh. Tom studied English at Colgate University, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He attended Albany Law School, and went on to earn his MPA from Marist College.

He maintained a private law practice in the Poughkeepsie area for many years, also serving as the City’s Assistant Corporation Counsel, and later as President of its Board of Education. He was an active member of the local Democratic party, the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish.

An avid baseball fan, his infectious appreciation of the game was a gift he shared with many friends. His loyalties were equally split between his beloved New York Mets, and whomever was playing The Yankees. Tom had an encyclopedic knowledge of early rock and roll, and a special fondness for Elvis, The Four Seasons, and Bruce Springsteen.

He is survived by his three children: Patrick and Maggie, both of New York City; and Jim and his fiancee Natalie Jones, of Saratoga Springs.

A celebration of The Flapper, as he was affectionately known, will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY on Friday, November 17 from 4-8 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s name to the Poughkeepsie Public Schools Foundation Fund, 80 Washington Street, Suite 201, Poughkeepsie, NY.
