Obituary of Paul Martin Amy
Paul M. Amy, age 78, of LaGrange, NY passed on January 4th, 2018 after a long battle with leukemia.
Paul was born on October 29th, 1939 in New York City to Alfred Vincent and Ann Briody Amy. He attended local schools and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1957. He graduated from Manhattan College in June of 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, joining IBM Corp in Poughkeepsie. At IBM, he was a development and advisory engineer, enjoying and learning the technological changes of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Upon retirement from IBM in June of 1993, he joined Schatz Bearing Corp in Poughkeepsie as a Quality Assurance Manager, enjoying another 17 years in a field he loved.
His volunteer work includes Vestryman at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Hook and Assistant Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 128 in Rhinebeck.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 33 years, Nancy O. Amy, the love of his life; son Paul M. Amy, Jr (Vanessa) of Watervliet, NY; daughter Katharine F. Amy (Thomas) of Manhattan; and daughter Janet Mele (Carmine) of Gardiner; granddaughters Jennie, Rebecca, Amanda; and cousins Estelle Johnston and Thomas Amy.
He was predeceased by his parents and five siblings; Alfred Jr (Lilyan), James (Mary Lou), John (Regina), Charles (Elaine), and Ann Shea (Frank).
Calling hours and a memorial service will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie on January 11th from 5pm-8pm.
