Obituary of Maria Rodriguez

Maria Elena Rodriguez was born January 15, 1936 in Bogota, Colombia. The youngest of 7 children born to Ester Rodriguez. She passed away peacefully at her home in the Town of Poughkeepsie, in the early morning of January 31, 2018 at the age of 82. 

Raised in Bogota, after high school she studied to become a nun before deciding to emigrate to the U.S. in 1965. She lived mostly in Poughkeepsie but always within Dutchess county since and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1983. 

Ms. Rodriguez worked various jobs, most notably making computer chips at Tau Laboratories, a subsidiary of IBM in the early 1980's before spending several years at the Poughkeepsie Journal when its distribution center was still in Poughkeepsie.  

Maria had a love for animals she expressed over the years by adopting several pets from the local ASPCA or taking in strays that needed a home, from her local community and in most recent years she enjoyed spending time being a kind and loving grandmother to her pride and joy. The experience of watching her grandson grow up was the highlight of her life. 

She is survived by her son Henry Rodriguez and grandson Henry Charles Rodriguez .
