Obituary of Clarke Moffitt
Pleasant Valley – Clarke Towle Moffitt passed away on February 8, 2018, a few weeks short of his 84th birthday. Born in Manhattan in February 1934, Clarke was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Towle) Moffitt.
Clarke attended the Greer School in Millbrook, NY where he graduated in 1952. He then served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Clarke was a plumber by trade and worked for several plumbing companies in the Hudson Valley until opening his own plumbing business which he ran until retirement. Clarke could solve most technical problems he faced using his vast knowledge coupled with his ingenuity.
Clarke loved classical music and reading philosophy. He thought deeply about the many social and political issues facing the world. He enjoyed the outdoors and photography and often took hours to take a handful of pictures to get the perfect shot, in the right light, at the correct shutter speed.
Clarke was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Brenda Claire Moffitt, and his brother John William Moffitt. He is survived by his sons Aaron Moffitt of Washington and Douglas Moffitt and his wife, Jennifer Jorgensen, of Poughkeepsie, and their three children Nicholas, Emma and Maya. Clarke is also survived by his sister Virginia Corrigan and her husband Gil, his brother Anthony Douglas Moffitt and sister-in-law Carol Moffitt.
A memorial gathering in honor of Clarke will be held in the Spring.
