Obituary of Allen E. Conners
Allen E. Conners, 75, of Hyde Park passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital Poughkeepsie, New York.
Allen was born in Poughkeepsie on July 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Leona Pyers and the late Lyman Conners.
On July 21, 1963, at St. Peter’s Church in Poughkeepsie, Allen married his high school sweetheart Florence Shaw. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last year.
Allen was retired from the NYSDOT after 36.5 years of service from his position of Motor Equipment Storeskeeper. Allen simultaneously worked three jobs during his life to provide for his family, working nights at Montgomery Ward's Auto Department and as a motor route driver for the Poughkeepsie Journal on weekends. After his retirement in 1997, he worked part time as a delivery driver for 9G Auto Parts.
Allen was a proud member of CSEA NYS DOT Local 507 and CSEA Retiree Local 909. He was a prior member of the Hudson Valley Sportsman Association. He enjoyed hunting trips with his brothers and nephews, boating and fishing, loved watching sports, and was a lifelong Mets fan. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family, especially his grandchildren which he spoiled with ice cream from the ice cream truck on their annual vacations to Clinton, CT.
Allen is survived by his wife Florence of Hyde Park, his children Michael Conners and his wife Lori of Hyde Park, Darlene Conners and her husband Jack Alger of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Nancy Belon and her husband Jared of Poughkeepsie and Peter Conners and his girl friend Kelly Kerns of Vernon Hill, Virginia. Allen is also survived by his grandchildren Emily Thrasher and her husband Rob, Rachel Conners, Brianna Walker, Michael Walker, Alyssa Belon, Carter Belon, Ava Belon, Byanca Conners, Gabriella Conners, Arianna Conners and great grandchildren Chelsea and Liam. He is also survived by his siblings Dennis Conners, Judy Sparhawk and his twin brother Albert Conners. He was predeceased by siblings Lyman Conners, Juanita Terpening, Margaret Kochis, Jean Stalter, Betty Kaiser and Linda Sue.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 10am at the Funeral Home and burial immediately to will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
