Obituary of Richard C. Ward

Richard C. Ward 92 of the Town of Poughkeepsie died Saturday March 3, 2018 at home.

Born in Poughkeepsie New York on July 17, 1925, Richard was the son of the late Charles and the late Anna Veach Ward.

On October 10, 1954 Richard married Nancy J. Way in Rhinebeck, New York. Nancy predeceased him on August 18, 2014.

Richard was a local resident all of his life. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie Schools, he was a World War II Veteran serving at the Battle of the Bulge in Normandy.

Richard worked at the NYSDOT as a Civil Engineer retiring in 1987 and was also the previous owner with Nancy of Fernbrook Farms Inc.

Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 1302, he loved all sports and in his youth played Football, Basketball and Baseball. Richard also loved to Bowl and was a member of the NYSDOT Bowling League.

Richard is survived by his daughters Velvet A. McCausland and her husband William of Queensbury, NY, Lee Zajkowski and her husband Raymond of Somerset, Kentucky and his grandchildren Kerri, Erik, Krista, Ian, great grandchildren Abbie, Sophie, Alexa, Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his four brothers Robert, Donald, Raymond and Roger.

Calling Hours will take place on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 10am to 12pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
