Obituary of Sebastiana C. (Bess) Hendricks

Sebastiana C. (Bess) Hendricks, 93 of Poughkeepsie, NY died on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Bess was born in NYC on November 16, 1924 to the late Vito and Josephine Zangre Milazzo and was raised in Pawling, NY. She married James F. Hendricks on January 11, 1945 at St. John's in Pawling, NY. He predeceased her on June 21, 2005.

Bess graduated from Pawling Central High School and Hakes School of Business in White Plains, NY. She was briefly employed by McCabe & Mack and spent the rest of her life as a homemaker, especially enjoying the huge garden her husband tended and whose vegetables she spent many hours canning and freezing. Bess also had a natural talent for arranging the flowers that she grew.

Bess is survived by her daughter JoAnn and husband John Kane of Poughkeepsie, NY and Okeechobee, Fla, daughter Denise and husband Vincent Tierney of LaGrange, NY, grandchildren Lisa and Paul Davey, Kelly Person, Christopher Tierney and Kimberly Shaw, nine great grandchildren, goddaughter, Kathryn Kraft, godson Michael Failla as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Bess was predeceased by her sister Antoinette Cavaleri and grandson James Davey.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00am. Burial is to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Pawling, NY.
