Obituary of Lucille Neener
Lucille V. Neener left this world to enter into eternal life. She was born on February 21, 1919, in Rochester, N.Y., to Louis and Helen Squires Schleyer. Lucille married her best friend, Norman Neener, on June 3, 1939, in Rochester, and they relocated to the Poughkeepsie area in 1945. Norman remained her devoted partner of 69 years, predeceasing her on April 10, 2008.
Lucille loved her home, family, friends, neighbors and her Church family at the Reformed Church in Poughkeepsie. She was a sports enthusiast, her primary passion being golf. She was one of the founders of the McCann Ladies Golf Division, a Life Member of the McCann Golf Association, and enjoyed working on fund raising golf events for the American Cancer Society. An avid bowler, Lucille belonged to the I.B.M. Baseball League and the Holiday Rainbow League.
While raising her family, she was actively involved in their activities, was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, served as an election inspector for 40 years in theTown of Poughkeepsie, and was a Meals on Wheels Volunteer. Lucille loved to bake and her Christmas cookies were welcome gifts to friends and family members.
In Lucille’s final months, she resided at Manor at Woodside, Poughkeepsie and was lovingly cared for by Eva, who enabled her to live life to the fullest and to whom the family will be forever grateful. We are also indebted to Jasmine, Concepcion, Brenda, and Olivia for their care and kindness. The family extends further thanks to Shirley Emrich for her faithful friendship, Tina Haggett, Church members, and McCann Golf friends who regularly visited her at the Manor.
Lucille was predeceased by her sisters; Beatrice Lyon, Bessie Smith, and Irene Adams; and her brother Kenneth Schleyer.
Left to mourn her are her four children: Joyce Hurst, North Wales, PA; James Neener (Sharon), Lyons, CO; Vicki Bradley, Poughkeepsie, NY; and Norman C. Neener, Lyons, CO.; her Grandchildren, J.
