Obituary of Francis X. Conger

Francis X."Frank" Conger died on Saturday May 5, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Frank was born January 17, 1924 in Poughkeepsie NY Son of Charles Oliver and Margaret Mary (O’Meara) Conger

Frank graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and enlisted in the US. Navy in 1942 shortly after Pearl Harbor.  He proudly served on the aircraft carrier, USS Bennington in the Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of First Class Petty Officer.  Following his discharge Frank enlisted in the US Naval Reserves for 5 years and attended Siena College.

Upon his return to Poughkeepsie, Frank began his successful 50 year career with IBM.  He retired from the Benefits Office in 1987.

Frank married Patricia Ann (Lamoree) on August 6, 1949 at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Hyde Park.  Together they raised 6 children: Charles (Lisa) Salt Point; Michael, Unionvale; Constance (Edward Minikel) Parkland, FL; Susan (Jay Bean), Ballston Spa; Thomas, (Jen) Unionvale, and Margaret (Gerard Mallet), North Port FL.

After retirement from IBM, Frank worked at the Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club where his upbeat positive approach to life was very appreciated by the members.

Frank was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his sons.  He was also a very talented golfer who played well into his 80's.  Upon purchasing a home in Palm Bay FL in 1987, Frank and his wife Patricia spent winters there, and then returned to Poughkeepsie for the summer and fall.  He will be sorely missed by the many Florida friends he made over the years.

In September of 2015 Frank returned to live permanently in Poughkeepsie at The Landing, Boardman Road.  He quickly acclimated to his new life and was quite happy and content.  Everyone knew the man with the booming voice who always had a smile and a friendly wave.  The Conger family wants to express their gratitude to the residents and staff of The Landing for their loyal friendship and support of Frank over the past two and half years.

In addition, we would like to acknowledge the medical professionals of South Circle 7th Floor, Vassar Hospital.  We are extremely grateful for their support and kindness during a difficult time.

Frank was a lifetime member of the Poughkeepsie ELKS BPOE 275, American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Manchester Hunt Club.

Additional survivors include 9 grandchildren: Katherine, Kelly, Amy, Amanda, Ashley, Alexandria, Adam, Hailey, and Elizabeth and; 8 great-grandchildren: Adam, Griffin, Grace, Olivia, Harper, Everett, Josephine and Brielle.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia 1995; brothers, William 1935, Charles 2004, and grandson Luke Mallet 1997.
