Obituary of Amelia Amy Mohr
Amelia “Amy” Mohr of Highland, NY passed peacefully into her eternal reward in heaven surrounded by her loving family on June 11, 2018. Amy was born in New York City on September 18, 1938, the oldest of two daughters of the late Mario and Catherine Tirri. She is survived by the joys of her life: husband, Herbert; son and his wife, David and Diana Mohr; granddaughter and husband, Lindsey and Luke Olson and great grandchildren, Henry, Anders and Nora; granddaughter Emily McNally and her fiancé, Jon Doro; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Zilinski; sister-in-law, Gertrude Logan; nephew and his wife Robert and Roni Zilinski and their son, Robert Thomas; nephew and his wife, Michael and Ann Marie Zilinski, and their sons John Mario and Michael Marcello; nephew Shawn Johnsen and his children, Shawn II and Alyssa; niece and her husband, Kim and Christopher Davie and their children: Michael, Kaila and Ashlee; loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased in 1998 by her precious daughter, Amy Beth.
Amy grew up in the Bronx and was an honors graduate of Evander Childs High School. She was a member of the Arista National Honor Society and the recipient of the Belding Memorial Secretarial Award. Amy attended classes at Fairleigh Dickinson University and the New York Evening School of the Bible. On October 22, 1960, at Glad Tidings Tabernacle in NYC, she married Herbert Mohr. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in October, 2010. Amy was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She worked as a Corporate Supervisor at Standard Oil Company in NYC and as a legal secretary at the Poughkeepsie Law Firm of McCabe & Mack. She served as Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastors of Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie for 28 years, retiring in September 2009. Over the years, she attended many training seminars, courses and workshops relating to her professional career.
Amy’s spiritual roots were in Glad Tidings Tabernacle where she received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. At Englewood Assembly of God in NJ, Amy served as the Christian Education Director for seven years. She became a member of Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie in 1979 where she was a church pianist and sang in the sanctuary choir. She served as President of the church’s Women’s Ministries Department for six years and was the Women’s Ministries representative for the Hudson Valley Section of the NY Assemblies of God for twelve years. At the Yokota Christian Center in Tokyo, Japan, Amy taught the Women’s Ministries Leadership Training Course and spoke at a women’s prayer retreat. She was a guest speaker at many women’s conferences and seminars teaching “Pray, Plan & Prioritize” and other devotional topics for women. Amy facilitated women’s Bible study groups and coordinated the “Sisters of Hope” ministry programs at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Together with her husband, she facilitated several small group Bible studies throughout the years at Faith Assembly. When her husband worked for IBM in Mainz, Germany in the late 1970’s, she was a Cub Scout den mother and secretary, piano accompanist for the high school choir at Frankfurt International School and pianist at two Assemblies of God fellowships in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. Amy was a piano accompanist for cello students in NYSSMA and music recitals in Dutchess County. She was a judge/adjudicator in the Fine Arts music division for youth of the Assemblies of God. She enjoyed every opportunity to be with her family. Her hobbies included: photography, reading, singing and playing the piano, attending concerts and plays, doing crossword puzzles and entertaining family friends in her home.
Amy was fond of telling people that every day is a gift from God to be opened with gratefulness. She was a joyful and consistent Christian whose love for her Lord was evident in all that she accomplished in her lifetime. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Her caring and affectionate hugs will be remembered fondly by those who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday June 14, 2018, 4 - 8pm at Faith Assembly of God, 254 Spackenkill Road, Poughkeepsie, NY.
