Obituary of Charles P. Smith

Charles P. Smith 78 of Salt Point, died Friday September 7, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Queens, New York January 4, 1940, he was the son of the late Edward P. and the late Ellie Clair Smith.

Charles was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Queens, New York. After high School Charles served his country in the United States Air Force.

On October 23, 1964 in Pleasant Valley, New York Charles married Joyce M. Mackey.

Charles was a local resident most of his life, previously from Queens, New York. He worked for over 30 years as an Electrician for Local 215 and Local 363. Charles was proud of his Irish heritage and being an American. He was a member of the Irish American Club, the Westchester Emerald Society and the IBEW retirees Chapter.

Charles was a big Giants and LA Dodgers Fan, he loved boating and Classic Cars. Especially working on his 1934 Ford and 1963 T-Bird.

Charles’ greatest joy were his grandchildren and great grandchild. He never missed any of their sports events, plays and concerts.

As strong supporters of HV Animal Rescue and Sanctuary Charles and Joyce sheltered and spayed/neutered stray cats for 14 years.

Charles is survived by his wife of 54 years Joyce of Salt Point, his children Darby Arce of Clinton Corners, Daniel A. O'Halloran and his wife Maria of Lagrange and Timothy J. Smith and his wife Gena of Ancram. Charles is also survived by five grandchildren Shane Arce, Kealy Arce, Corey O'Halloran, Megan O'Halloran, Abby Smith, great grandson Leo Arce, his sisters Kathleen White and her husband Kenneth of Sarasota Florida and Roseanne Gasparro of Poughkeepsie.

Charles was predeceased by his five brothers Steven, Andrew, Robert, Mickey, Edward and his two sisters Cricket Smith and Mora Dvorak.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday September 12, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Thursday September 13, 2018 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish 185 Hudson View Drive Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. Peter's Cemetery.
