Obituary of Evelyn Louise Michos
Evelyn Louise Onofrio Michos, died at peace, in her sleep at home and passed into the loving arms of her Lord on November 11, 2018.
Born in Endicott, NY, May 31, 1926 to Louis and Louise Onofrio, Evelyn was raised in Bronx New York. She was married in New York City on June 06, 1948 to Soteros P. Michos, who predeceased her.
She is survived by her dear sister, Dora Presti, and three sons, Peter and his wife Charlotte, Terence and his wife Carmen, and Richard. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, Lia, Daniel, David, Andrew, Abigail, Rachel and Angela Michos, who lovingly knew her as ‘Nana’. She leaves behind many dear friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn left New York in 1952 and settled in Poughkeepsie with Soteros and his sister Helen and her husband Gus Vaselekos. She was well known and loved in the Italian and Greek communities and throughout the Poughkeepsie area.
She volunteered for the Vassar Brothers Mother’s Club for over 60 years and is a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church. St. Martin de Porres in Poughkeepsie became her church home since its inception over 50 years ago
She began her working life in a clerical role on Wall Street and continued to work throughout her life, including in local retail and many years in the Vassar Hospital and medical laboratory community.
She loved local activities, was a member of the Red Hat Society,and was a regular participant at Town of Poughkeepsie Senior Center activities, where she made many great friendships, enjoyed numerous fun trips and was always a source of laughter.
Her family was her greatest priority, and her greatest joy was being Nana… her love of family, holidays, and friends was evident in everything she did (which included many Wednesday nights with the girls, her famous meatballs and eggplant, hats, craft fairs, laughter and joy). She was a voracious reader.
Viewing Services will be held at Doyle Funeral Home, at 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday November 16. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, November 17 at St. Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church, at 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Burial is immediately following at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue.
