I was overwhelmed with emotion last night and could's say what I wanted to say. Here it goes. Matty was one of the finest students I have ever taught at Arlington. He was always the gentleman, the level headed kid in the class, the achiever, the kind of son that any parent would be proud of. He had a sense of humor along with a sharp mind that made teaching him a joy.
I have nothing but the fondest memories of him which I shall treasure for as long as I live.

Through junior high and high school, Matty was a kind and caring friend. I will never forget his antics on our trip to Russia. Then, after college he and Donna lived in the apartment above mine for a short time.

Donna, I am so very sorry for your loss. Matty was a good friend throughout our years in school from kindergarten to HS graduation. After Tim and I were married in 1977, we had our daughter in 1980. Matty and Brian Kelly came and sold us our Life Insurance Policies. It was great to have him still in our lives. He will be missed but he will never truly be gone, memories are one of our greatest treasures. They get us through the not so good times throughout of lives. He will be remembered. I wish I could attend the services but I live in North Carolina with my son and wife. I will be saying Prays for Your family and You.

There are truly not enough words that I can write that would reflect on the man that Matt was. My family and I knew Matt for over 20 years. We became friends when I became DOC at LaGrange Soccer. He was always able to see both sides of issues and folks always respected his insight and open mind. I always enjoyed conversations with Matt about his family, life and soccer. I got the opportunity to coach his daughter Lindy at Arlington and during that time Matt came to every match but never did he ever talk to me about her play. He was always a true professional. He loved his wife Donna and his family and was a very generous and loving man. He was a true gentleman who I had a great admiration and love for. I and my family will miss him. We are truly sorry for his loss and are thinking of Donna, Matthew, Kara and Lindy and the family during this most trying time.

Part of an inseparable neighborhood of friends growing up, there weren't many days we didn't have something we'd do together - baseball on the corner lot, running bases, tennis ball wars, All-Star Baseball complete with statistics, Bug Olympics, Ball Olympics (you had to be there for the last 2), baseball at all levels right into high school and soccer - we had a creative imagination usually related around sports. Matty was the epitome of a next door neighbor, sharing much of our youth together. Even though we drifted apart as I headed west to build my life, the memories endure. Our thoughts now are with Donna, the children and his new grandson; and with Tina and his Mom. We love you!

Close friends from LaGrange Junior High School through Arlington High School Matty and I had kind of lost touch with each other in recent years, but did run into each other from time to time. I did miss that close relationship we had through the years along with the friendship I had with Donna as well! I feel a terrible sense of loss and feel horribly for the entire family.
