Obituary of Ruth M. Bright
Born June 25, 1923 in Tenafly, New Jersey. Ruth grew up in Bergenfield, NJ and graduated from Dumont High school class of 1942. Ruth was the daughter of George Bollinger and Lena Wonner. During WWII Ruth was a volunteer letter writer to the troops overseas, one of the veterans she wrote to was Thomas Bright. Thomas’s mother, Minnie Bright was so thankful to Ruth for writing to her oldest son she invited Ruth to tea at her Union City, NJ home. It is here that she met William another son who was home on leave from the Navy. Ruth and Bill married in 1944; they had four children, Barbara, Kathy, William and Douglas who survive her. She is also survived by Marjorie Bright, her daughter in-law, Bowen Roberts, her son in-law; her grandchildren: Krishna Bright, Kim Porter, Jackson Porter, Cree Roberts and her husband Jack Merchant, Joshua Bright, Daniel Bright, Erica DelForno, Paul DelForno and his wife Michelle DelForno and her great grandchildren, Alex & Lauren Delforno, Arjuna Bright, Mahalia Nathaniel & Natalia Fenandez. Her son in law Hank Porter predeceased Ruth.
Ruth was very active in her church, Arlington Reform in Poughkeepsie, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Ruth made friends easily and extended her love and kindness to everyone she met; from her neighbors on the Boulevard to her final home at The Fountains in Millbrook, NY. She went out of her way to say hello and spend time in conversation with all. Her love and kindness were shared with all who knew her. Ruth had long time friends from all generations that made an effort to stay in contact with her. Her family and friends meant the world to her. Bill and Ruth traveled in their motor home taking trips across the country and up and down the east coast where they made new friends at every stop. After these trips Ruth would love to share the experiences with everyone, she had a gift for making a person feel special.
The family would to thank the staff at The Fountains at Millbrook for the care and love they shared with Ruth. Ruth was blessed with living 95 years, during this time she shared her spirit of love and kindness to all who knew her. If there is ever a doubt that the universe if friendly, we can just remember it gave us Ruth Marie Bright. Burial and a brief service of Christian burial will be in January 23, 2019 at 11 AM, in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Arlington Reformed Church.
