Obituary of Harold B. Feroe
Harold Bradley Feroe, of Poughkeepsie, NY, at 91 years of age entered into heaven on January 13, 2020 at the Renaissance Rehabilitation Center in Staatsburg, NY. Harold was born in Vassar Hospital on April 22, 1928 and was the eldest son of Charles Harold Feroe and Agnes Ethel Bond Bradley.
Growing up across the street from one another, Harold and Beverly Jean Caldwell began dating in later high school. On May 15, 1948, they were married at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Arlington and honeymooned in N.Y.City, later traveling to Niagra Falls. Harold attended Arlington High School and upon graduation in 1946, he joined the army and served in the 7th Infantry Division. He served at the end of WWII and later he was stationed in Korea as an acting company sergeant E5. Harold received good conduct, WWII, and Korean Campaign medals. Right out of the service, he acquired a job at IBM where he worked until his retirement in 1988. As a retiree, he volunteered at the LaGrange Library entering the book bar codes into the computer system. In 1956 Harold and Bev had a house built in LaGrange NY where his family grew up and he resided until October 10, 2019. In the 1950's he was a founding member of the Overlook Estates Association and a LaGrange Volunteer Fireman. As an association member, he volunteered his time along with many other fathers, creating a swimming hole in the Wappingers Creek with a large concrete dock with ladders and a diving board, a place where children could safely play. They also cleared the land for a family picnic area and a baseball field.
For over 20 years, the family vacationed at Paradox Lake in the Adirondack Mts. for 2 weeks every July, where we all enjoyed the simplicity of nature and life. Harold had a sailboat he would trailer up to the lake and enjoyed the solitude of sailing on the water. In later years he and Bev traveled abroad to France, Scotland and several islands in the caribbean.
He is survived by his daughter Janette Feroe Weidler, and his son David R Feroe and his wife Ann, and Dave's children, Kellie Couch and Steve Couch; and Tim Feroe and Jen D'Agostino; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Stasiac, Tyler Federspiel and Averie Feroe. He was predeceased on January 2, 2016 by Beverly his wife of 67 years, his brother William Richard Feroe in 2018 and his son-in-law Robert Weidler in 2010.
In the later years of his life, Harold became actively involved in many ceremonies honoring all veterans. As a proud serviceman, he joined in local parades even riding in the horse drawn war wagon. In 2017 he was on the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to Washington DC and was honored to met and speak with Bob Dole. In Harold's honor and memory, we would welcome any donations made to the Wounded Warriors or any other US Veterans organization of your choice.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. The burial of both Harold and Beverly's cremains will take place in the spring at the Lagrange Rural Cemetery during a private family ceremony.
