Obituary of Marion S. Poluzzi
Marion Scotti Poluzzi, 97 of the Town of Poughkeepsie died Sunday, January 10, 2021, weeks after contracting COVID 19 at her nursing home. Sadly, the virus proved too strong an enemy even for someone who had overcome so much in her life. She grew up in a generation that was not afraid to act for the greater good -as a young woman, she saw her brothers go off to fight in WWII; yet Marion died during a time when people are too selfish to wear a mask to protect others. Another casualty to a virus that has taken too many lives. Marion died alone, visiting prohibited, and end of life visits via an iPad. She, like over 370,000 Americans before her, deserved better. Marion was a social butterfly who loved to be around people which made her death alone even more cruel.
Born on June 6, 1923 to Frank Scotti and Marianna D’Andrea she was the youngest girl of 8 siblings, all of whom predeceased her to meet her at the gates of heaven and enjoy their Sunday dinners together once again.
Marion was a 1941 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and then attended business school before working as a secretary and in retail. She enjoyed world travel and warm places. For years, Marion could be seen every day at lunchtime at Roma Deli, knowing everyone and everything happening in Poughkeepsie.
On February 24, 1946 she married Henry Poluzzi at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. Henry predeceased Marion in 2003.Marion was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie; she had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Marion is survived by her two daughters, Catherine Poluzzi of Poughkeepsie, NY and Mary Ann Poluzzi of Palm Bay, Florida; her two granddaughters, Lisa Seymour and Angela Flesland and a grandson, David Corrado as well as two great-granddaughters, Amy and Laura Seymour. Marion is predeceased by her husband, Henry, and her siblings, Carmella Scotti, Viola Scotti Peluso, A Robert Scotti, Louis Scotti, William Scotti, Frank Scotti and Paul Scotti. She is survived by countless nieces and nephews and her dear friends, the Davison Family, who were like family to her.
In light of the COVID 19 pandemic and the desire of the family to keep everyone safe, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 1pm at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie. A livestream of the funeral mass will be available on their website. Friends and family are encouraged to watch the funeral online instead of coming to the Mass. Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Marion’s life will take place at a later date when we can gather together safely.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dutchess Responds, to assist those in our community struggling with the pandemic that took Marion’s life. Most importantly, the family asks that you wear a mask, wash your hands and socially distance.
