Sam and I worked together at HVCU.
We clicked right away because of our love to laugh. She was so welcoming and I loved sharing stories about our lives. She was all about family and inclusion which allowed us to connect in so many levels. I would always do voice impressions and her favorite was my impression of Mrs. Doubtfire. Whenever I spoke in that impression, her laugh was incredible. I could hear her laugh as I write this message. She was a true fighter in life, and the sweetest woman who never let her current situation stop her from doing what she wanted to do. I will miss her deeply. I’ll remember when I watch or talk as Mrs. Doubtfire...I’ll give it a little extra for you.
Love you,
Jonathan and Kaylee Mercado

Dear Anthony and members of Sam’s family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I worked with Sam for many years. She was a ray of sunshine within our Pleasant Valley team and she was loved by all. She always remained positive and brought happiness to others, even as she worked through her difficult times. I admire her in so many ways and I will never forget her.

Sam was the most vibrant, positive person I have ever met. Being able to work with her for the last two years was an incredible honor. She lifted me up in times of great stress, something I never got to properly thank her for. Her spirit will endure in each and every person she touched, and I pray for healing for her dear family.

I met Sam working together as tellers at ulster federal credit Union when I was 18. We quickly became very good friends and have been friends ever since. We laughed so much working together. We would go out together to joes in new Paltz bavk in the day and constantly talk on phone and hang out too. we would go to the gym together and work out. We even went and got our belly buttons pierced together! Sam also knew my mom before me working with her at the px in accord too. I remember Sam met anthony and their beautiful wedding. I remember hanging out with them both. Then to her being in my first wedding, and helping with my shower to later on getting a divorce and being there for me then as well. Then moving forward being there for shoulder to cry on when mom passed. Anthony and Sam at our engagement party. I remember through these years battling cancer and she was such a brave, strong person. Sam was a part of my life for so long I have know her 23 years and she will be very missed. As we would always say when we hung up the phone I love you and miss you! RIP my beautiful friend. You will be missed.

Samantha Scotti, 47 yrs., Born; July 31, 1973 -- Died; January 12, 2021
Eulogy… My last gift to Samantha, my dear niece …
From Uncle Tom
Samantha was a beautiful, sweet, and very kind person.
She was only 2 years old when her mother Carol, my dear sister, died at age 32.
She didn’t fully understand the loss, but knew her mother was not coming back.
She grew up with an emptiness that only God could fill.
Each week, she and her sister would come to Grandma’s house, where I tried to help her through her underlying grief, like
- Reading Bible stories to them
- Playing games and playing with their toys and dolls with them
- Running around and playing outside
- Taking her to the parks, animal parks, etc.
- Just enjoying her company, whether at dinner or making sure she ate dinner
- Picking out Easter outfits for them with Aunt Jeanne
When she was 18, the only grandparents she ever knew, went home to be with the Lord.
At that point, Aunt Jeanne shared the gospel with her, and she sincerely gave her life to the Lord.
When she married, I had the great pleasure of dancing with her at her wedding. A beautiful bride. I was so honored.
She came to her cousins’ weddings (Danielle’s, Jennifer’s) and it was a great joy to see Samantha (and Maryellen); and to see them totally enjoy the festivities of the day.
I am so glad I was able to talk with her and support her in these last, recent months.
The last few months of sharing things about her childhood and her mom & dad, helped soothe her and give her some peace. And it gave me peace to know she was following strongly after the Lord.
Also, sharing words from the Bible helped her through her very tough days, and were a great comfort to her.
I was devastated when the call came that she had died, but I knew - and was so happy she knew – that she would land safely in the Lord’s arms.
To me, she is my beloved niece, and always will be.
I will always miss her while on this earth, but I WILL see her again in heaven; because you see, Jesus promises that, and He never lies.
I end with God’s promises …
Revelation 21:4 - And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
John 11:25 - Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

I met Samantha when I was teen. We worked together in the coffee shop of the Granite Hotel and soon I was spending more time at her house than I was my own. Sam was the type of person that everyone wanted to be around. She was loving, funny, and had an infectious smile that lit up the room. I remember she use to bring home every animal she would find on the side of the road. One day she found a little puppy. He was so little with black curly hair. She took him home and talked her dad into letting her keep him. He had an enormous heart as well. That cute little black puppy grew up to be an enormous black beast named Barnaby. He was wild and hard to tame, but Sam adored him.
Sam,
I am thankful to have gotten to know you, thankful for the memories we shared together, and thankful to have called you my friend. I truly believe this isn't goodbye, it is just until we meet again one day. Until that time, watch over us, sour high, shine bright, and give your dad a hug for me. You will NEVER be forgotten!
Instead of flowers I wanted to pay tribute to Sam in a way that could last forever. I decided to have a star named in Sam's memory and placed in the star name registry. Sam's star is named "Coraggioso Bellissimo Spirito Sammy" which means Brave Beautiful Spirit Sammy in Italian. The star can be viewed online at https://star-register.org/show?id=6468459
The coordinates for viewing and location information are in the attached photos.

I remember briefly meeting Samantha at the little thrift shop and noticing (thou I never met her before) what a brilliant, almost Etherial look she had with the most beautiful smile that lit up the room.
After reading her story, I do believe Angels do walk among us like Samantha.
I do believe a beautiful soul such as hers, was destined for strength, not sadness and maybe ...just maybe to show others around her the Beauty of being a strong spirit to guide others.
Amen
Fondly,
Christie Shea
