Obituary of Ruth L. Filoreto

Ruth Lorraine Filoreto, 93, of Montgomery, NY, passed away on February 13, 2021 at Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center in Campbell Hall, NY. Born on March 24, 1927 in Beaver County, PA, Ruth was the daughter of Ralph and Clara (Lango) Canonaco. She had 6 siblings (Belinda, Josephine, Vera, John Vincent and Jean) who are all deceased except for her sister Jean Militti who just turned 97 years old. Ruth leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She lived with her husband, Joseph E. Filoreto, Sr. from 1951 until 2010. At the time of his death they had been married for 60 years (1945-2005).

The surviving relatives are Marie Mills, Anthony J. Filoreto, Sr. Joseph E. Filoreto, Jr. (Susan) and Ralph Mills. Her grandchildren are: Melissa Filoreto, Amanda Schleisner (Will) and Anthony J. Filoreto, Jr. Her great grandchildren are Brandon and Owen Schleisner.

Ruth was a member of ILGWU. She worked at Nicky-Lou Fashions and Perri's Sportswear. After retiring, she worked in the Marist College Cafeteria where she was loved not only by her co-workers but also the students who thought of her as their grandma.

We would like to thank Maria and the rest of the "Angels" on the 1st floor at the facility in Campbell Hall. This has been a difficult year as access into the Rehabilitation Center was halted due to Covid-19 and we could not visit her inside. They loved and cared for her and we will be forever grateful.

Mom loved to laugh, dance, go to restaurants and go on adventures with her best friend Cynthia Lydford and their friends. She was always happy to tell you a "dirty" joke; however, she couldn't always remember the punch line. A family is not always made up of blood relatives-Cynthia called Mom every evening and they sang songs together. She not only checked up on Mom but on all of us. She is definitely family and will always be etched in our hearts. 

Visitation will be on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Graveside Service will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 11:00am at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
