Obituary of Chantal Sherwin
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Chantal Elizabeth Sherwin (age 60), who lost her courageous, year-long battle with cancer on April 20, 2021. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving partner, Keith Robishaw, her two faithful daughters, lights of her life, Chantal Smart and Lainey Sherwin, and grandson Robert, her pride and joy. She was also comforted and cared for by many others, including Lori, Kara, Aly, Brie, April, Donna, Kayla, Amanda, and Yunhee. Everyone who knew and loved her was there for her as she had been for them throughout the years. Chantal possessed a beautiful smile and soul, and her generosity of spirit was always there to lend her ear and provide support to whoever, whenever, and wherever needed. She was loyal to a fault and would have your back unconditionally.
Chantal was born on August 16, 1960, in Manhattan New York, and raised in Poughkeepsie by her parents, Ed and Paule Roberts with her brother Chris. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1977. In 1991 she began her career with the Dutchess County Department of Probation, rising to the rank of Unit Administrator until her retirement in October of 2020. She showed the same care, compassion, and concern for her probationers as she would for anyone who was near and dear to her. The ultimate hostess, Chantal loved nothing more than a gathering of friends and family at her home, which often included an expansive group of people. Chantal’s universe of friends was wide and varied. She possessed a silver spoon in the kitchen and had a green thumb in the garden. A bold soul, she could never say no to an adventure.
Later in life, Chantal located her birth mother, Beverly Flisser, and she discovered another brother, Addie Flisser, and several nieces and nephews. Chantal was the loving and selfless caregiver to her parents, Ed and Paule (who predeceased her) and Beverly (who also predeceased her). She is survived by her life partner, Keith, her daughter Chantal and her partner Rob, her daughter Lainey, her grandson Robert, her brother Chris and his wife Regina, her brother Addie and his wife Lisa, stepchildren Christopher Robishaw and his partner Tanya Wasson, Sean Robishaw, Carissa Robishaw and partner Kevin Whipple, grandchildren Ava, Lucas and many nieces and nephews.
She will never be forgotten and will forever live in our hearts. Her passing leaves a deep void that will never be filled, but those who loved her will continue to honor her memory and legacy by thriving and living their lives to the fullest, as she did herself, and would have wanted for them.
A celebration of life is to be held at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie, New York 12603 April 27, 2021, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A memorial gathering/service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at James Baird park at 2 pm Memorial donations on behalf of Chantal can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
