Obituary of Leonard T. Futyma

Leonard T. Futyma, 91, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on December 3, 2021, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was born on November 3, 1930, in Edwardsville, PA to the late Benjamin J. and the late Helen D.(Spurkowski) Futyma. He became a resident of Poughkeepsie when his family moved to the area in 1937.
 

He served in the Army during the Korean War as a Medic in a MASH unit from August 17, 1951

 to July 9, 1953.

On May 18, 1963, at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, NY,  Leonard married Carol E. Regg of Rhinebeck, NY.

He was the Owner of Landscapes by Leonard in Poughkeepsie, New York since 1964. He developed a keen ability to solve many difficult landscaping obstacles with the outcome of making his customers very happy with the transformation of their yards.  Most of these customers became life-long friends.

Leonard was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Being in the presence of his family and friends was his life’s joy. Leonard was a real people-person.

He loved all aspects of landscape gardening, growing plants in his greenhouse, and tending, enjoying, and sharing the harvest from his garden each year.

He was involved with ministering at the church food pantry where he looked forward to seeing the many clients with whom he became friendly. He felt that he was able to give back and make a difference in people’s lives.

He loved the many dogs that were his companions over the years and leaves behind his adored  poodle; his “Little Girl”, Holly.

He is survived by his wife Carol Futyma  of Poughkeepsie NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol (Futyma) Doss (her husband, John Doss, survives).  Son and daughter in-law Jeffrey & Christine Futyma of Poughkeepsie, NY; Daughter and son in-law,  Karen & Sal Bennie of Poughkeepsie, NY; Grandchildren, Justin Crandell , Jordan Futyma,& Christian Futyma, and great-granddaughter McKenzie, and his nieces, Ellen and Lauren

Calling hours will be held  on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10 AM at Church of the Holy Trinity, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY.  Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
