Obituary of David C. Thompson

David Craig Thompson, 61, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on February 6, 2022. Better known to his friends and family as Craig, Dad, or Papa, Craig was born June 25, 1960 to Cornelia and the late Dave Thompson.

Craig was a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, a graduate of Roy C Ketchum High School, and he attended Dutchess Community College. He married the love of his life, Laura, in April of 1984.

When Craig wasn't working at the local Tops, he could be found basking in the disappointment of being a Mets, Giants, and Knicks fan. Craig had an unmatched sense of humor and his laugh was infectious and carried through a room. He never met a stranger. Craig was an avid gamer, and enjoyed horse racing.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and father-in-law.

Craig is survived by his wife Laura of Poughkeepsie, mother Cornelia of Wappingers Falls, children Jessica (Will) Colombo of Highland, Derek Thompson of Poughkeepsie, Jennifer (Derrell) Thompson of Poughkeepsie, and his four grandchildren, David, Leo, DJ, and Aaliyah. He also leaves behind his aunt and uncle as well as cousins. Craig will be missed most of all by his favorite child, Louis the Corgi.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday February 9, 2022 from 3pm to 7pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday February 10, 2022 9:30am at St. Martin dePorres Church with burial to follow at Poughkeepsie, Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dutchess County SPCA in his memory.
