Obituary of Lucio Mendoza Blas

Lucio Mendoza Blas was born on June 30, 1976 in Ciénaga deZimatlán, Oaxaca Mexico and died at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, on February 8, 2022.

Lucio came to the US when he was a teenager with a dream to build a better life for his family.  He started work at Blondies Café in Rhinebeck and then began a long career at Ruges Subaru where he was well liked and respected by his colleagues. Lucio was a hard worker who cared about his work and his customers. He studied English as part of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at the Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck. One of his proudest moments came in 2017 when he became a US citizen.

Lucio was deeply dedicated to his large and loving family.  He is the second of five children. His siblings include: Pastora, César, Rosario and Mirella. Lucio’s parents are Domingo Mendoza Martinez and Hermila Blas Castellanos. His wife, Paula Castellanos Castellanos, and two sons, Abraham and Alexander Mendoza Castellanos, live in Hyde Park.

Lucio was a private and gentle person. His family describes him as the best and most magnificent husband, father, son, and brother. He was affectionate and hugged his loved ones often.  Lucio enjoyed spending time with his young sons - playing soccer, biking, running, eating ice cream, and reading to them at night. 

Calling hours will be held on February 14th from  4- 8 pm at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie. A Mass will be held on February 15th at 10:00 am at Saint Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie. A burial at Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie will follow the Mass.

Lucio llegó a los Estados Unidos cuando era un adolescente con el sueño de construir una vida mejor para su familia. Lucio estaba profundamente dedicado a su numerosa y amorosa familia. Es el segundo de cinco hijos. Sus hermanos son: Pastora, Cesar, Rosario y Mirella. Los padres de Lucio son Domingo Mendoza Martínez y Hermila Blas Castellanos. Su esposa, Paula Castellanos Castellanos, y sus dos hijos, Abraham y Alexander Mendoza Castellanos, viven en Hyde Park.

Lucio era una persona reservada y gentil. Su familia lo describe como el mejor y más magnífico esposo, padre, hijo y hermano. Era cariñoso y abrazaba a menudo a sus seres queridos. Lucio disfrutó pasar tiempo con sus hijos pequeños, jugar fútbol, ​​andar en bicicleta, correr, comer helado y leerles por la noche.

El horario de atención se llevará a cabo el 14 de febrero de 4 a 8 pm en el funerario Timothy Doyle en Poughkeepsie. Se llevará a cabo una Misa el 15 de febrero a las 10:00 am en la Iglesia de Saint Mary’s en Poughkeepsie. Un entierro en el Cementerio de Saint Peter’s en Poughkeepsie seguirá a la Misa.
