Obituary of Alice Joan Merritt

Alice Merritt, (Joan), 82, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on May 25, 2022. She was born on April 25, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Henry and Dorothy (Lovelace) Brown.
Joan was a Home Maker and a local resident all of her life. Joan was the wife of Howard J. Merritt Sr., they were married at Our Lady of the Rosary Church on May 5, 1961.

Joan attended St. Peter's Church and Regina Coeli Church. Her family was the most important part of her life.  She enjoyed her daily trips to the Ever-Ready Diner to eat with friends and see staff.

Survivors include spouse Howard Merritt Sr. Poughkeepsie New York, her children Howard J. Merritt Jr. and his wife Laura, Clinton Corners New York, Bonnie Merritt and her partner Mike Boccia, Pleasant Valley New York, Carl Merritt and his wife Diana, Stanfordville New York, Jeffrey Merritt and his wife Tracy, Poughkeepsie New York, Shawn Merritt and his wife Shannon, Hyde Park, Brian Merritt, Cohoes New York, 15grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, her sisters Marie Irwin, Las Vegas, Charlotte Miranda, Poughkeepsie and she was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Buko.

Joan’s family would like to thank her neighbor, Jerri Hayes, and the nurses at Vassar Brothers hospital.

Friends may call on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday June 4, 2022 at Regina Coeli Church, Route 9, Hyde Park New York

Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
