Obituary of James M. Ulacco
James Michael Ulacco Jr. passed away peacefully Friday July 15, 2022, at the Kaplin Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh N.Y. after a brief illness.
He was born in Tarrytown N.Y. on August 23,1941. He was the son of the late James Michael Ulacco Sr. and Rose Marie (Stanco) Ulacco. James is survived by his wife Margaret of 45 years, his sister Anne (Snooky) Bellieu of Gilbert, AZ, his brother Robert Ulacco and his wife Gay of Casselberry, FL. He is also survived by his children, son James Michael Ulacco III of Phoenix, AZ, his daughters' Donna Letteri (Alex Skovan) of Millbrook, NY, Jennifer Kaiser and her husband Jeffrey of LaGrange, NY. His grandchildren Amy Letteri and her husband Dave Colesanta of Pittsburgh, PA. Jeffrey Jr., Andrew and Matthew Kaiser of LaGrange. His great granddaughter Adrianne Letteri of Pittsburgh, PA. His nieces and nephews Terri DeCasto, Kim Ulacco, Ricky Ulacco and Danny Ulacco. Jim is preceeded by his son Christopher Ulacco.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1959 until 1962 on the U.S.S. Richard E. Kraus. He was always proud to have been a Tin Can sailor. Jim grew up in Tarrytown and raised his family in Sleepy Hollow and then in Montrose. Jim and Margaret have resided in Wappingers Falls for the last 25 years.
Jim worked for Anchor Motor Freight/Leaseway as a mechanic in Sleepy Hollow for 32 years. After retiring, he worked for Tarrytown Schools Transportation Department for 10 years. Jim was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sleepy Hollow, NY. and a member of the American Legion Post 427 Wappingers Falls, NY.
Jim loved spending time with his family and enjoyed orchestrating traditional family gatherings. He loved to cook and loved to eat. Jim always enjoyed hearing about his grandchildren's adventures. He was someone to talk to and to offer advice; there were rules and expectations, encouragement and pride. Jim felt right at home spending time at Graceland Tattoo either chatting with Adam and his crew, getting a tattoo or keeping his grandsons' and their friend’s company while they got tattoos. Jim got his last tattoo on his 80th birthday.
Calling hours for Jim will be held on Thursday, July 21st from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral service will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home on Friday, July 22nd at 10:00am. Jim will be laid to rest after the service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetary, 540 N Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY. Following the burial service, we will gather for a celebration of Jim's life at Southwest LaGrange Fire Company Station 3 located at 21 Red Oaks Mill Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY.
