Obituary of Wayne E. Zittel Sr.
Wayne E. Zittel, Sr.”Chubby” “ Big Poppa” ,68 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022 in Glens Falls, NY. Wayne was born on September 15, 1953, in Poughkeepsie, NY to George F. and Marguerite Zittel. He married the former Terri W. Wilson on June 7, 1975, at Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church, LaGrangeville, NY and resides at home.
A local resident all his life, Wayne was the former owner of Zittel Disposal and T & P Limousine.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Wayne also was a life member of LaGrange Fire Department Station #2, Vagabonds Drum Corp, and the Fairview Men's Club. Wayne had a passion for Chevy trucks and restoring his 1963 Chevy pickup. He enjoyed classic car shows, Lake George, camping and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. As a close friend describes “He was big, tough, loud and would tell you to go fuck yourself in a heartbeat. At the same time, he had a heart as big as he was and always had your back”
In addition to his wife Terri, Wayne is survived by his son, Wayne E. (Chrys) Zittel, Jr. of Red Hook, NY, daughter JoAnn Zittel (Hector Mayo) of Highland, NY, grandchildren Brianna Vellone, Daniel Zittel, Avery Mayo, Adalynn Mayo, Sister in laws Barbara Zittel, Barbara Gavin, and Shirley Stortini. Brother in laws Louis Stortini and Hil Mumma nieces Dawn Zittel, Jessica Graff, Sarah Margherita, Veronica Cartwright, Daniella Rosete nephews George R. Zittel and Bryan Zittel and his loving cousin Lisa Hof “Nurse Ratched” Wayne is predeceased by his parents George & Marquerite Zittel, sister Jacqueline Mumma and brother George R. Zittel.
Calling hours are on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:00am at the Funeral Home. Burial is to follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. A reception will be held at the conclusion of services at Lagrange Fire Department Station #2, 504 Freedom Plains Rd, Poughkeepsie.
