Obituary of James Pelton

James G. Pelton, age 71, of Pleasant Valley, NY, passed away at Vassar Brothers Hospital on Saturday,
September 17, 2022. Known to most as Jimmy, he was born on September 5, 1951 in Whitestone, NY
to Herbert and Doris Pelton and was part of a large family. He moved to Pleasant Valley in 1969.
Jimmy graduated from Arlington High School. He was a proud and very active member of the Elks BPOE
275 as well as the Sons of the American Legion Post 1302, and the Pleasant Valley Rotary. Most
recently, Jimmy was employed by Wappinger Central School District as a bus driver, before that he
worked at a dental lab for many years, he even traveled to the Philippines in 2007 to help impoverished
dental patients. Jimmy loved golfing, camping, and just having a good time. He was always the life of
the party and had a great sense of humor.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter Gina Pierre-Louis of Owasso, OK. His grandchildren Zoe and Aidan
Pierre-Louis of Owasso, OK; Tobey and Cora Pelton of Poughkeepsie, NY. Siblings Julie Purdy; Herb Jr.;
Charlie (Sandy); Tom (Cherrie); Ella Gufler; Laura Wetzel; Teresa (Steve) Hughes; Dennis (Stephanie);
Bobby (Deb); and Dan. His niece Heather Pelton and his brother in-law Robert Simons. He is also
survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son James Pelton Jr.,
his parents, and his sister Mary Simons.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 1 st from 12pm to 2pm at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home
followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion Post 1302, which all are invited to attend.
Donations may be made to the Sons of the American Legion Post 1302 in Jimmy’s honor.
