Obituary of Thomas McGrath III
Thomas H McGrath, 75, passed away on Thursday, December 29 th 2022.
Born on December 12, 1947 in Troy, NY he spent his childhood in Wynantskill, NY and
graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY. He was the son of the late
Thomas and Blanch McGrath. He is also predeceased by his brother Daniel McGrath, sister
Susan Vanier, brother in law David Vanier and their son David . He is survived by his loving wife
of 42 years, Carolyn (Carrie) and their children, Kimberly, Evan (Tara), and Michael, five
grandchildren, Samantha, Madeline, Carter, Camden and Wallace and six great-grandchildren.
Tom grew up loving many types of sports, especially the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. He was
involved in his children’s sporting activities, provided a summer camp for youth strength and
conditioning and was a certified ski instructor. Graduating from Castleton State College in VT
with a Bachelor of Science degree he was honored by the Physical Education Department for
Academic Excellence. Earning the designation of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
and Certified Athletic Trainer, he worked for the Athletic Department at Dutchess
Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY . Loving to teach, he earned a Master of Science in
Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, NY. and taught physical education at
Arlington Central High School. His favorite physical education classes were with
Developmentally Disabled students. A loving son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and
friend, he will be greatly missed and remembered by the lives he touched. In ieu of flowers the family
requests that you direct donations to the Special Olympics or other community organizations
that support the Developmentally Disabled. A celebration of his life will be held in the near
future.
