Obituary of Stephen Nauta

Stephen J. “Stevie” Nauta, 71, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home in Salt Point, NY with his wife and daughter at his side.

A lifelong resident, he was born in Salt Point, NY on May 22, 1951 to Bert Garrett and Louise May (Bumpus) Nauta. 

On March 8, 1968, Stephen married Jean M. “Pigeon” Secor in Pleasant Valley, NY. They had one daughter, Tina Marie Nauta who resides in Poughkeepsie.

Stevie was a drummer in the “Country Gentlemen” in the 60’s, and worked repairing gas pumps for Roe & Coffin in the 70’s and 80’s. He was an avid bowler - getting (3) 300 games, fisherman and hunter.

Other survivors include his sister Leigh Knickerbocker and husband Barry; brother Brian and wife Nancy; Sister-in-law Sandy Nauta; many cousins, sister and brother-in laws; several nieces and nephews; lifelong kindergarten friend Gary B. Gent of Pine Plains; and his beloved cat Yogi.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his brothers Bert Jr., Craig and David; and best friend Paul Skidmore.
