Obituary of Barbara Sinclair
Barbara (Woundy) Sinclair, 91, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023,
surrounded by family, after a long illness. For the past two years, she had been a
resident at The Landings in Poughkeepsie but recently in the Hospice Suite at the
Pines.
Barbara lived a long and happy life. She was very kind, giving, and faithful. Barbara
was lovingly known as Babs, Mom, Grammie, Auntie, and Barbie. She was loved by
everyone dearly and will be greatly missed. Barbara was born in Brookfield,
Connecticut July 29, 1931, one of four children of the late Kenneth and Dorothy
(Francis) Woundy. She loved school and was the valedictorian in her senior year at a
private school in Florida. She then enrolled at the University of Connecticut Storrs
where she met and married her beloved late husband, Neil Sinclair. They lived in Maine,
New Hampshire, and Connecticut before settling in LaGrangeville, NY for 55 years.
Barbara was devoted to her family of five children, five grandchildren, and ten great-
grandchildren. She loved to host large holiday gatherings and was always available
when support was needed. Over the years, she gave loving care to her ailing father,
brothers, mother, mother-in-law, and husband. She also loved to look after children and
volunteered often to watch her grandchildren. A very important part of Barbara’s life
was her religion and her church community. Barbara was a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church in LaGrangeville for 5 decades. One of her greatest pleasures was
singing in the choir and being involved in her church community with family and
friends. She volunteered for committees, functions, the food pantry, and fundraising.
She also gave time to serve her larger community by volunteering for Hospice, sewing
costumes for Poughkeepsie Ballet Theater, and fundraising for the Parkinson’s
Foundation. Barbara loved to stay active in her free time by poetry writing, gardening,
reading, bird watching, crafts, sewing, baking, and traveling.
Barbara is survived by her beloved sons, daughters, and their spouses. Richard
Sinclair, Mark Sinclair (Karen), Sharon Sinclair Young ( Stephen), Sandra Sinclair, Donna
Sinclair Burke (Brian). Barbara also leaves her grandchildren John Merriam (Jen), Eric
Sinclair ( Samantha), Andrew Sinclair ( Lauren), Catherine Young McCormick (Mike),
Kayla Burke, and her great-grandchildren, Jonah, Jared, Jake, Gracie, Connor, Gus,
Charleigh, Riley, Quinn, and Emma. She is survived by her older sister Janet Bardawell
and her nieces and nephews Linda Heider (Terry), Bob Williamson (Joan), Nancy Duval
( Gary), Steve Williamson (Annie) Michael Woundy, Debra Woundy (Jacqueline), as well
as her cousins Carol Lamson Astin, Don Lamson, and Doris ( Lamson) McClung. She is
preceded in death by her husband Neil Sinclair (2001), brothers Kenneth Jr (Laura) and
John Woundy, her niece Joanne Williamson, son-in-law Robert Rockefeller, and cousin
Diane ( Lamson) Barber.
