Obituary of Robert John Seitz
Robert John Seitz, 83, of Poughquag, NY passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday,
February 23, 2023.
Robert was born on April 11, 1939 in Auburn, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Robert Joseph and
Helen Hosier Seitz.
Robert was a graduate of Union Springs Central School and attended Dutchess Community College.
On February 22, 1958, Robert married Marion Tanner in Auburn, NY. She survives at home.
In 1961, Robert started his career with the New York State Department of Corrections at the Green
Haven Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer. He became a Sergeant at Bedford Correctional, a
Lieutenant and Captain at Green Haven, Deputy Superintendent for Security at Queensboro,
Woodbourne, and Fishkill, and 1 st Deputy Superintendent at Green Haven before retiring in 1998.
Robert had a part time landscaping business. He was an active member of the Beekman Cemetery
Association and a member and chairman of the Legislative Committee of Union Vale Grange #887.
Robert also managed several residential properties.
Robert loved to collect vintage agricultural antiques and model trains, hunt, tend to his fields, and other
farm activities. In the summer, he enjoyed spending vacation time at the family cottage on Hadlock
Pond in Fort Ann, NY.
Robert is survived by his wife Marion, brother and sister in-law Donald and Sandra Seitz of Auburn NY,
son Robert James Seitz of Lagrangeville NY, daughter and son in-law Susan and John McIntyre of Palm
Harbor FL, nephew Derrick (Mary) Seitz of Cayuga NY, grandchildren Kimberley Seitz of Key West FL,
Kristina (Hiren) Patel of Singapore, Kathleen (Stephen) Hellmer of Orlando FL, and great-grandsons
Asher and John.
Calling Hours will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 from 3pm to 6pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral
Home at 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 2pm at the Beekman Baptist Church on
Beekman Road in Hopewell Junction, NY.
Burial will follow at Beekman Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
