I just saw that Dr B passed last March. I knew Dr B as he was one of my greatest professors from Marist where I studied Biological Scientists-and ultimately became a Virologist thanks to him, and Marist. Dr B was truly a caring person. When my best friend (also a Marist Student) had an unexpected death, both He and Dr Perrot (also RIP) showed up at the Funeral. Truly Marist professors really care, and Dr. B was one of these kinds of Professors. Rest Well Dr. B. Til we meet again.

Dr. Bettencourt was a great biology teacher, among the greatest of great teachers at Marist College. He really challenged me in my studies at Marist as a biology major (1966-1970). I didn't go onto a career in biology due to the Vietnam War, and ended up going into a different direction professionally. Nonetheless, the challenge involved in mastering a scientific field in general, and Dr. B's very challenging courses, especially comparative anatomy, prepared me well for my future professional life. Best of all, Dr. B. was just a plain nice guy. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Requiescat in pace.

I offer my deepest condolences to Dr. BettenCourt's family. He was my biology professor in the early 1980's. Knowing that I was working my way through college, he always gave me the option of having extra time to study for his exams. He was a wonderful teacher who was a true inspiration to his students. He will never be forgotten.

I took cell biology and histology classes from Dr Bettencourt in the mid 1970s on my way to a biochemistry degree, His classes were very tough. Our motto for him was cruel...but fair. The correcting True False questions on exams were brutal. But a great person. Happy and uplifting. Among the biggest influences in an excellent education (IMO) that I received from Marist. Thank you is all I can say.

My condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Bettencourt. For me, he belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of Marist science professors along with Dr. Molloy and Dr. LaPietra.
25 years after having him as a professor we toured Marist with our son, a prospective student. When we came upon Dr. B in the hallway, he greeted me by name, which absolutely floored me.
Ran into him at the McCann Center many times after that to watch basketball, and he was always gracious and kind.

Dr B was my favorite professor. I had him for many classes starting with General Biology freshman year, then various required classes, plus elective classes over my 4 years at Marist. I chose electives that he taught. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Dr.B was by far the best thing to happen to Marist College Biology department. His classes were my favorite and were not at all easy. If you ever had the pleasure of the first page of one of his exams, you know what I’m talking about with those true/false questions! I remember one time, in immunology, there were 4 “trues” in a row, and nobody got them right because we all panicked that there were so many trues in a row. He got a kick out of this! Dr.B was a master of the microscope and a true champion of his field. He was also kind, inspiring, and pushed his students to be the best versions of themselves. I will be forever grateful for my time in class with him, and my panic attacks in his office as my advisor. Hope they have microscopes up there with you now, Dr.B!!

Dr B was my absolute favorite professor.
He was fun, motivating and really made one want to learn. He clearly loved teaching. His passion for science and the biology field was palpable. He encouraged me to become a physician and I will never forget how influential he was in my life.
He will be missed by so many and has left quite a legacy. Much love to his family.

Thank you for sharing Dr. B with the Marist community. Although I was a science major, I didn’t interact with him until my senior year. I needed one more credit to graduate and Dr. B stepped up to the challenge. He found me an internship to satisfy the credit and even met with me over break to follow up. I’ll be forever grateful that I graduated on time so I could continue my career path. All my thoughts to his family. He was a wonderful man.

Dr. B was the best teacher/mentor I have ever had. I had him back in 2003-2007 and he still remained in touch. He was truly one of a kind. He cared about his students to a level that I’ve never seen before and for that he truly made an impact and touched my life. My love for microbiology came from his parasitology class.
