Obituary of George Garofalis

George Garofalis, 97, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on August 7, 2023. He was born on June 17, 1926, in Utica, New York to the late Stelios and the late Despina (Kaloyiannis) Garofalis.

A Local resident since 1953. He was the Owner of George’s Quality Shirt Laundry and was the owner of the Collegeview Luncheonette.

He served during the Korean War in the Army from November 9, 1950, to October 23, 1952.

George was a member of the Order of AHEPA and Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church.

George loved to paint and spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was the husband of Maria Loussedes, they were married on February 22, 1953, in Poughkeepsie, New York. Maria predeceased George on January 20, 2013

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Despina G. and Alexandros Stathidis Poughkeepsie New York, daughter and son-in-law Stephaine and Mark Sidote Warrenton Virginia, grandchildren Vasilios (Chrysoula), George (Virginia), Maria (Brett), Steven (Rachael), Gregory (Meghan), great-grandchildren Alexandros, George, Nikolas, Delia, Dean, Bennett, and sisters Voula and Demetra.

George was predeceased by his brothers John and Evangelos Garofalis.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
 

Funeral Services will be held August 11, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.

Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York.
