Obituary of John Ronald Hughes

Dr. John Ronald Hughes Ed.D 87 of the Town of Poughkeepsie passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday August 15, 2023.

John was born in New York City on December 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Alice Warneke and the late George T. Hughes.

John was a graduate of Washington Irving High School Class of 1954, he received his BS in Industrial Arts at SUNY Oswego, his MS in Educational Administration at SUNY Albany, and his EdD in Educational Administration at SUNY Albany in 1979.

On April 6, 1958, in Tarrytown New York, John married Louise Adele Fisher, she predeceased John on February 26, 2022. 

John was a Captain in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed as an Industrial Arts and Driver’s Ed Teach for the Wappingers Central School District.

John was also a Deputy Sheriff for Dutchess County from 1995 to 2000.

John was also an Aircraft Mechanic for Schneider Air Service at Sky Acres Airport.

John was a member of QBs, American Legion, the Masons, the Wappingers ELKs, Rotary and Twinco Flying Club.

John’s survivors include his sons Steven (Teresa) Hughes of Red Hook, NY, Jonathan (Mary) Hughes, his sister Lois Mittelstaedt of Washington and grandchildren Jeremy (Brittany) and Benjamin Hughes and Ryan Wallace (Leigha) and Michelle Wallace Lynch (Brian) John was Great Grandfather (GG John) to Dylan, Cecilia, Sebastian and Anthony. He is predeceased by his sister Pat Lindsey.

Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Monday August 21,2023 at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York.
