Obituary of Gabriella Margit Tippa
Gabriella “Gail” Margit Tippa (née Toth), 76, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on September
11, 2023, peacefully surrounded by the people that loved her most.
Gail was a breast cancer, colon cancer and skin cancer survivor. In 2021, Gail was diagnosed
with Myelodysplastic syndrome and most recently with Leukemia, which she ultimately
succumbed to after a valorous battle. Her grace and bravery during her final fight were an
inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Gail was born on January 29, 1947, to Gabriella and Endre Toth in a refugee camp in Plattling,
Germany. She and her family immigrated to New York through Ellis Island in 1951. She was one

In the 1960s she met the love of her life, Joseph F. Tippa. They were married on January 24,
1970, Gail and Joe went on to have three loving children, Nicole, Jacqueline, and Erik.
Over the years, Gail had a very active social life. You could see her playing Bocci with her
friends at the Italian Center, bowling on Wednesday mornings, playing cards on Tuesdays, daily
calls with her besties, weekly lunches with the ladies, Friday night Rummikub, Saturday dinner
parties, shopping for a new handbag or something for her girls but most of all spending time with
her most prized possessions; her grandchildren, and great grandchildren who called her “Mama”.
Most people will remember Gail for her big heart, her love for everyone, her kind words,
listening ear, her extraordinary will and strength to live and to see her family continue to grow,
flourish, and reach for the stars. Her infectious smile and laughter would light up the room.
Those who knew her loved her, those who didn’t wish they did.

Over the past weeks, days, hours, and minutes before Gail’s passing, the family had many
laughs, tears, unforgettable conversations, and FaceTime’s with her. The conversation that
resonates most with the family is what we leave you with: “Don’t cry for me, I will be with each
of you always and forever.”
Gail will be deeply missed by her family, friends, friends she called family and all who knew her.
May she rest in peace. We love you more Mama!
