Obituary of Georgia D. Carpenter
Georgia D. Carpenter, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 after a brief illness, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was 84 years old. Born in Poughkeepsie on September 17, 1938, she was the daughter of Charles E. Rogers and Marjorie Simmons Rogers. She attended Poughkeepsie schools and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir in her youth. Though she held various jobs outside the home, mom’s true calling in this life was as a homemaker and caregiver. She provided in home care for children as well as the elderly, maintaining close relationships with the families she cared for long after her services with them concluded. She enjoyed reading, cooking, old movies, and spending time with her family, whether it was a cookout, a holiday dinner, or coffee at The Big Tomato. She was well known to surprise friends and family with a plate of stuffed shells, braciole or chicken soup. Her greatest joy was her granddaughter, Elisabeth, who never ceased to amaze her.
She was blessed to have shared her life with her longtime companion, Donald Belknap, who predeceased her in 2000, and her former husband, Dallas Carpenter, who predeceased her in 2015.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Nora Mae Trudell and Bettie Jane Brown, and her brother Charles “Pat” Rogers. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen E. Carpenter, in 1992. Our grief at her passing is lessened by our certainty of her joy at being reunited with him in Heaven.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Carpenter Misner and her husband Scott of Clinton Corners, her granddaughter, Elisabeth Marie Misner of Clinton Corners, nieces and nephews, Bonnielee Paonessa, Carolanne Campilii, Michael Brown, Timothy Brown and Dominick Sculco, grandnieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Meadows at Brookmeade, especially Marcie, Ashley, Rosa, Mary, Carrie and Chelsea, for their kind and loving care during mom’s stay, and Hudson Valley Hospice for their support and guidance during mom’s final days at home.
