Obituary of Kathleen A Regan
Kathleen A. Regan nee Coughlin died on October 27, 2023 at home surrounded by love, after courageously battling cancer. Her niece, Vanessa Lorenzeni, was present for Kathy during this time at home going above and beyond to make sure that her aunt was cared for in the most amazing way.
She is survived by her beloved husband Michael Regan and and her bosom companion, Kiki Darling, at home. W
Born in Brooklyn October 4, 1951 to J. Dennis and Patricia S. Coughlin, Kathy was their second child and first daughter. Dennis (Barbara d. 2020) was her adored big brother, followed by Kevin (d. 1972), Patti (Edward Mechtel), Terence (Catherine), Elizabeth (Stephen Fonda) and Harry (d. 1976)
She was predeceased by both of her parents.
Kathy graduated from St. Edmunds High School and went directly into working with her father and uncle in their real estate business. She followed in her Dad’s footsteps and became an amazing mortgage officer. She worked for a number of mortgage companies until she relocated to the Rochester NY area and there opened up her own mortgage company, becoming the youngest woman to have her mortgage eagle in New York State. She went on, through the ups and downs of real estate, making the dream of homeownership a reality for thousands. She was a brilliant woman, but even more importantly, she was a woman who loved helping people.
In 2005, when her father became ill, she and her husband Mike made the decision to leave the Rochester area and move back to the Hudson Valley to be near him. She became a partner in her sister Elizabeth’s real estate closing company, Hudson Valley Closers, where she quickly became the heart of the real estate closing services. She loved being a closer and, as always, excelled at it. Everywhere she went and everything she did, she was everyone’s favorite.
She became a mother when she adopted two of her cousin Sheila’s daughters after Sheila died from brain cancer. Kelly and Donna became the loves of her life, making her the most generous mother, and ultimately, grandmother of all. She adored all of her grandchildren, Haley (Mike), Jake, Heather (Connor), James and Sierra. She then had the privilege of becoming a great-grandmother to Bryleigh, Caelan and Dawson.
Aunt Kathy was EVERYONE’S favorite aunt and Godmother!! Her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews all adored their Aunt Kathy aka Aunti Chaos. Although they are too numerous to an enumerate here, they all loved their Aunt Kathy very much and more importantly, all knew that they were loved by her. She had the gift of making everyone feel as if they were her favorite. Everyone knew for a fact, if Aunt Kathy was there, it was a party!
Kathleen loved God deeply, and had a strong sense of spiritual purpose. That purpose was best exemplified in her service to others in AA and The Single Purpose Sober Club, where she served as trustee, working tirelessly beside her husband, Mike. Kathleen’s love of people, compassionate nature and hard-won wisdom was given generously to all she came in contact with inside the rooms of AA. She was a shining example of a life lived to its fullest in sobriety.
In lieu of flowers, Kathleen expressed her wishes for all who wanted to remember her to donate to The Single Purpose Sober Club 291 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie NY, 12603 in her name.
