Obituary of Marie D. Walsh

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Dahoney Walsh on December 4, 2023 at the Pines in Poughkeepsie surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, Marie was born on May 30, 1926 to William L. Dahoney and Rose Keck Dahoney. She attended local schools, graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1944 and going on to attend State University of New Paltz. She graduated New Paltz in 1948 and went on to teach kindergarten in Nanuet and Spackenkill.
On April 9, 1950, she married the love of her life Thomas Sheridan Walsh, and together they shared 42 happy years together, until his death in 1992. She left teaching to raise her five sons, but eventually returned to education as a librarian assistant at Arlington High School for many years. Once retired, she spent her time traveling and enjoying her family. But her greatest joy was spending time at the New Jersey shore at her second home in Sea Isle City.
Marie is survived by her sons Thomas and his wife Candace, Kevin and his wife Barbara, William, James, and his wife Amy. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Ryan, Brett, Cory, Michael, Brian, Christopher, Matthew, Megan, Carolyn, Shannon, and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, her son Joseph, her granddaughter Kaitlyn and sister Eleanor Tompkins.
Calling hours will be Sunday, December 10, from 2-5 at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 hooker Avenue. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial the following day at 10AM, Monday, December 11, 2023 at Holy Trinity Church. Interment will follow at Saint Peter's Cemetery.
