Obituary of Anthony Paonessa

Anthony J Paonessa Sr passed away on December 10th 2023.

Anthony was born on November 28th, 1953 in Poughkeepsie, NY, one of seven children to Mr. and Mrs. Dominic and Louise Paonessa. He attended grade school at Mt. Carmel School in the City of Poughkeepsie and later graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt Highschool in Hyde Park, NY. During his high school years he met his loving wife of 47 years, Bonnie Lee Brown. Anthony and Bonnie Lee were married at Mt. Carmel Church on August 27th, 1977 in Poughkeepsie, NY. They went on to raise two children, Anthony Jr. and Aerin. 

Anthony, a lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, made many lifelong friends and touched many hearts, from coaching little-league in the City of Poughkeepsie with his brother Victor Paonessa to his career at St Mary’s Church and School as the head of maintenance. After his work weeks he enjoyed nothing more than playing in various softball leagues around Dutchess County as well participating in a Monday night bowling league with his wife, his brother, and his friends for many years. Even in retirement he always had a joke to make you smile when you would see him around town and loved to talk sports as he was an avid NY Yankees fan.

Anthony is survived by his wife Bonnie-Lee Paonessa, his son Anthony Paonessa Jr. and his wife Andrea of Poughkeepsie, NY, and his daughter Aerin and her husband Anthony Libretti of Coral Springs, Fla. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna and Richard Czervak of Wappingers Falls, NY, Linda Paonessa of Poughkeepsie, NY, Dominic Paonessa of Poughkeepsie, NY, Joanne Noll of Poughkeepsie, NY, Thomas and Cindy Paonessa of Wake Forest, NC. He is further survived by his sister in law Emily Paonessa of Poughkeepsie, NY, brothers in law Michael Brown of Kingston, NY and Timothy Brown of North Carolina, and sister in law Carolann Campili of Wappingers Falls, NY, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. 

Anthony is predeceased by his parents Dominic and Louise of Wappingers Falls, NY, his mother and father in law, James and Betty Jane Brown of Poughkeepsie, NY, his brother Victor Paonessa, his brother in law and close friend DJ Noll, his sister in law Lynette Paonessa, and his brother in law James Brown of Poughkeepsie, NY.
